 Food, a perfectly normal word. In humans, this substance, which is usually

made up of various carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, can satisfy their 

normal life needs and increases their longevity and spirits. In my life, students 

think that food is the necessity of their life, some students even feel that they    

have to fill their stomach before they study or do their homework. And some 

people who have gone hungry have shared what it feels like to go hungry: 

stomachaches, general weakness and dizziness that can occur for a day or a 

a few days without food. In CCNY, there’s a place called Benny’s Food Pantry, 

a charitable organization that focuses on eliminating food insecurity. They 

provide rations and distribute food to people who do not have proper access to 

food. When I entered their room, I asked one of them a few common questions: 

“What kind of people do you provide free food to? Why do you have such a 

program and what does it mean? If someone wants to help you, what should 

they do? Do you have any partners?”  She said:” We provide safe food primarily 

to people who are homeless, on low incomes or in need of safe food. In fact, 

everyone has the right to a safe and impactful meal. Benny’s food pantry is a 

product that lightened the burden on the community and provided safety for 

people. And our food pantry is the only community source of free, healthy and 

nutritious food and ingredients. Let the people we help recognize the problem of 

food insecurity. And there are a lot of resources for information on government 

assistance programs, health and nutrition seminars. Over the past three years, 

food insecurity has skyrocketed because of COVID-19. Many people, even 

some of our closest neighbors need this kind of help. An estimated 10 million 

people and children in the United States are now eating unsafe food. And we 

provide free healthy food and we grow nutritious and healthy produce in the 

city. If anyone wants to help with our program, we are more than welcome. We 

accept any canned or boxed food, but we do not accept any personal or 

household items such as clothing. Our partners are: The Office of Institutional, 

Advancement and Communications, NYPIRG, CUNY Edge, Division of Student 

Affairs, Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Food Bank of New York.”

     The issue of food safety is also one of the worst impacts of the COVID 

epidemic. Because of the need to stay home during the onset of COVID-19, 

food supplies are low and fresh food can go stale and moldy from being left out 

for too long. There are many countries with poor agricultural skills that often rely 

on foreign food imports to support their own food demand before COVID, but 

because of the impact of COVID, they had to stop trading with foreign food 

during the worst period. Making food shortages in their own countries worse 

than before. While COVID-19 has been proven to have no evidence of food 

transmission at this time, the demand for food becomes higher than ever during 

the pandemic because people need to avoid going out as much as possible, so 

they need to keep large amounts of food at home to provide long-term food 

supplies. Retailers across the United States are running out of beans, eggs, rice 

and bread, and even the demand for alcohol among adults is growing. In 

addition, foods with a longer life span, such as canned and vacuum-packed 

foods, are also being sold in large quantities. Many food company owners said 

in interviews that their factories are operating over capacity almost all the time. 

Because of this, many retailers find it difficult to guarantee the supply of food, 

and many retailers limit the amount of food they buy. As a result of the high 

demand, health concerns about food are also on the rise. Take avocados, 

which many people buy in large quantities in the belief that they boost immunity 

to the virus. So the price of avocados has skyrocketed. In general, many fruit 

and vegetable products have grown in popularity because consumers believe 

they offer increased immunity to viruses. This increase in demand for all foods 

has not occurred; Sales of luxury food have been declining. Consumer trends 

show that as people work fewer hours due to COVID-19, they consume less, 

with most people only buying their necessities. To ask about the long-term 

impact of COVID-19 on the food industry, some people may continue to cook at 

home long after the pandemic is over.

     In the United States, the laws of each state are amended by the governor of 

each state, so the laws of each state are different. In New York City, every 

student in middle and high school is entitled to a free lunch, while in Long 

Island, only low-income students can enjoy free lunch benefits. This year, New 

York City will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to students under the 

age of 18 during the summer break, as it has in the past. In addition to the 

National Day Holiday, free breakfast and lunch will be served from June 28 to 

September 2, 2022, at more than 200 designated locations, including public 

schools, community pools, parks and food trucks. The free breakfast and lunch 

reflect the New York City Department of Education’s commitment to the highest 

nutritional standards, according to the department’s website. Foods that meet or 

exceed USDA standards are not made with artificial colors, flavors, or 

preservatives. They offer a variety of fresh fruits, whole grains, vegetables and 

salads for children under the age of 18.

     Food safety has been a topic of great attention from all mankind for a long 

time. Food safety refers to food that is non-toxic, harmless, in line with the 

nutritional requirements that should have, and does not cause any acute or 

chronic harm to human health. There are three levels of food safety. The first is 

food quantity safety, that is, a country or region can produce the dietary needs 

for the basic survival of the nation. People are required to be able to buy and 

afford the basic food they need to survive. The second is food quality and 

safety: refers to the food provided in terms of nutrition and hygiene to meet and 

ensure the health needs of the population. Food quality and safety involves 

food pollution, whether it is toxic, whether the additives are illegal, whether the 

labels are standardized, etc. The third is food sustainable safety: this requires 

food acquisition from the perspective of development to pay attention to the 

good protection of the ecological environment and the sustainable utilization of 

resources. These are the three meanings of food safety care. In our current life, 

because of the rapid development of science, our current living standard and 

people’s living standards have been greatly improved. However, with the 

progress of science and technology, the problems of food safety are becoming 

more and more. The first is that almost all non-raw food today contains a variety 

of food additives. Some of these additives are harmless to the human body and 

can be assured to be eaten, but some businesses will add some delicious but 

harmful food additives. These additives are as harmful as chronic poisons, and 

the body doesn’t change much when you first eat them, and there aren’t many 

health problems. But if you take it for a long time or in large quantities, it can 

cause serious diseases and harm to the human body after many years. And 

these harmful food additives are a low-cost and high-yielding thing for 

businesses. Adding harmful food additives can save a lot of money than making 

food in a normal and healthy way. Adding these harmful additives can even 

taste better than normal food. So to avoid unsafe foods, people need to learn 

about food safety and learn how to identify the ingredients and avoid foods that 

are harmful to people. What people need to do to ensure that food is absolutely 

safe: the first is to make sure it is safe. Even if you eat in a restaurant, make 

sure the food is clean and there is no deterioration. As consumers, we have the 

right to make healthy food choices for ourselves, indirectly supporting a 

sustainable global food system and food safety. The second is to buy raw 

materials from normal channels to make food, because some people even use 

technology on them. Even if you grow produce at home, you should use safe 

ways to grow it. Food producers need to adopt good agricultural practices to 

ensure adequate safe food supplies worldwide, while minimizing environmental 

impacts and adapting to climate change. With the change of food production 

system and the change of adaptation conditions, farmers must seriously 

consider what is the best way to deal with potential risks to ensure food safety.
