Personal Statements

My family expected me to go to college when I was young. Since none of them could be admitted to the university, they hoped that I could finish this university and graduate successfully. They also hope that I can set an example for my younger brother, because after I go to college, he will definitely want to be admitted to a good university after graduating from high school. It will be much easier to find a job after college. After college life, I will know more things, learn more things, and experience some things that I can’t experience outside of college.
When I came to high school, my biggest challenge was learning English. I started school in America in Queens, and my English was very terrible at that time. I didn’t understand what everybody said. In class, the teachers all spoke English and I didn’t get anything from them. I could only choose to translate my homework on my phone. A little while later, I could understand a little English, so I tried to speak to someone. When they talk to me in a few sentences later, they know my English is not strong, and they do not talk to me anymore.
In the second half of my ninth grade, I transferred to Roslyn High School. This school was more difficult than my previous school because there were almost no students who spoke my language. I feel that this is a very good environment for me to learn English, but it also gave me a lot of pressure, even more pressure than the last school. After a lot of hard work, my English is better. When I was in junior year, I started working hard to prepare for the SAT and ACT. I started to use my extra time after school to read and went to a tutorial class. After a while, I took my first SAT, but the score was not very good. I continued to work hard until I accomplished a score I was proud of. I know when I get into college, my hard work is going to pay off.
